Watching so many people dance around with their roller skates specially Oumi Janta, I decided to go for it. I’ve always wanted to learn how to roller skate. This is a great hobby you can do outside without spending much up front. It’s also a great form of exercise if you are looking for a new fun routine.
- First, you have to find a pair of skates that fits well. I went for an inexpensive pair because I didn’t want to spend a lot up front. I do have my eyes on this Moxi pair, maybe in a year. I also found this store that still have a few in stock.
- Next, get your protective gear. I’m turning 35 soon and I’ve never broken a bone and have no desire to start now.
- You also need an helmet, I’ve fallen several times at this point and I’m just happy I’m in one piece. This shop also has a lot of cute protective gear.
- You also need a Y3 skate tool, to tighten the nuts on your wheels. You don’t want them getting loose while you’re skating. You will also need them if you decide to upgrade your wheels. I got these and love them.
I didn’t go crazy buying anything else, if I’m still doing this in a year, maybe I’ll get skates with suede boots, they look so cute. I had zero experience with roller skating and Dirty School of Skate channel on youtube has all the lessons you could possibly need. Now I’m learning to skate backwards, slowly but surely.
A few more tips, roller skating is great for your legs and core, so make sure to stretch well before starting. Try doing some squats, lunges and such before starting. It’s really important to activate your legs if you are not usually active. So keep that in mind.
