Happy Book Review Day! I had a great reading month and please feel free to share with me in the comments what you’re reading. I’m always looking for recommendations. I’m joining Steph and Jana to their book link-up. So make sure to check them out to find more book reviews. Let’s get right to it.
Fiction

After I Do: Lauren and Ryan meet in college and are inseparable since. Ryan turns 30 and they can hardly stand each other. So they decide to take a year break with zero contact from their marriage. This book is not as scandalous as the 7 husbands but I loved it. Filled with good wisdom about relationships and this book surprisingly made me laugh a few times. Verdict: 3.5

Silent Patient: This book is so crazy you guys. Theo is a psychotherapist determined to help a patient who went completely silent after killing her husband. This book has a lot of twists and was so satisfying. I loved it! I cannot say anything more about it, just enjoy! Verdict: 5 Stars

Little Fires Everywhere: So this book got my attention right away, 3/4 into it I started getting bored but then it picked up again. This is my first time reading Celeste Ng, this is one of a few times where the writer went deep into almost all the characters. You may love or hate that and in the end I loved it because it made sense. The story was touching and I highly recommend it. Verdict: 4 Stars

The Flatshare: This book was a delight from start to finish. It is quirky and I just loved the main characters. They are the type of people I would want to be friends with. Tiffy is looking for a new flat on a small budget and respond to an ad of a flatshare with a man. They share the one bedroom apartment but will always be home at different times so they will never get in each other way. They communicate through short notes and soon form a friendship. This is how you write a romantic comedy, it has a happy ending but it is not at all cliché or boring. Verdict: 4.5 Stars

The Friend Zone: I expected this to be brain candy and part of it was but part of it was also heavy. Kristen meets Josh during a fender bender and she finds out that he will be part of her best friend’s bridal party. She has a boyfriend and is trying hard to keep Josh away. It was a great book and I finished it in a day. Verdict: 4 Stars

Jar of Hearts: I read this book in a day, I could not put it down. Geo is on her way to prison for a secret she kept for 14 years. She came clean and is now serving 5 years in prison. Her story though is so much more complicated than that. This was a great thriller. Verdict: 4 Stars

Like A Love Story: Reza moved from Iran to Toronto and is not living in New York with his mom and step dad. It’s 1989 and he’s terrified by the AID crisis. In his new high school he meets Judy that likes him instantly but he definitely has a thing for Judy’s best friend Art that is gay and very open about it. This book was truly wonderful and if you are a Madonna fan, it will be a treat for you. Verdict: 4.5 Stars

How Could She: This book is about 3 friends, Geraldine, the one that everyone worries about, she just broke up with her cheating fiancé and is looking for a new job after impulsively moving to NYC. Rachel, the YA writer and mother with the adorable husband, her writing career is not all that great. Finally, Sylvie the artist with all the success and rich husband. Rachel and Sylvie do not get along but lately they seem to be bonding and leaving Geraldine out of it. This book is about the sometime weird dynamic of female female friendship and I really enjoyed it. Could not put it down. Verdict: 4 Stars

My Oxford Year: Ella is in Oxford for a year and is so excited to be there and soak it all in. She meets Jamie in not the best circumstances and later finds out he’s her professor. Ella is driven and not looking for any attachements, unfortunately things are not as simple as they may seem. Cannot go into this without giving anything away. I liked this book way more than I expected. Verdict: 3.5 Stars.
Non Fiction

More Than Enough: Oh I honestly did not plan on reading this book, but I decided to do so after seeing so much buzz about it and I’m glad I did. Elaine did such an amazing job telling her story, from sharing her dreams to work in the magazine industry, being biracial, her love life, being an editor in chief for a major magazine under 30. Her story is nothing like Michelle Obama’s Becoming but it’s as beautifully written. I got the audiobooks and I loved that her parents made several cameo in it. Verdict: 5 Stars
I am currently reading The Heart’s Invisible Furies and it’s so good.
Wow what a great month for you! Just added Flatshare and After I Do to my list! Glad you also liked The Silent Patient and Jar of Hearts! (And yes, I’m right there with you giggling all day while listening to The Heart’s Invisible Furies!)
I liked LFE & AID, although I think both authors have better works…not that those aren’t good, just the others are GREAT! LOL. Looking into How Could She, thanks for sharing :)(
The Silent Patient sounds like my kind of read. I’m currently reading Recursion by Blake Crouch. I read his book Dark Matter a couple years ago and loved it.
You had a good reading month! I want almost all of these on my TBR list!
Ahhh, you’re piquing my curiosity about Silent Patient! Adding it to the list!

I enjoyed The Silent Patient and it was definitely a fast read because you wanted to know the answers. Jar of Hearts has been sitting in my NetGalley shelf forever and I need to get to it. I’m hoping this month … maybe!
I have a lot of these on my list to read!
I loved The Silent Patient. I just didn’t see that coming! I started Little Fires a couple years ago and had to table it. It was a slow start for me. I *think* Jar of Hearts is on my Kindle. If not, it’s definitely on my TBR.
