Happy New Year! So happy to be back but I’m not going to lie this break was so good to me. It was nice to have a few days off to nap, catch up with family and friends and do whatever. It’s really one of the first times I took a real blogging break, I didn’t check on anything for days. I also took a social media break, meaning I didn’t worry about posting unless I had something previously scheduled. I don’t do Health and Fitness posts as often but I figured the start of a new year is the perfect time.
One thing I learned in this past year is that not all about diet and exercising, there’s so much more to wellness. This article breaks down the 6 dimensions of wellness. I think it is more important to work on your psyche before everything else. I read a lot of books in 2017 that were such amazing nourishment for my soul. If you get my weekly newsletter you know what I’m talking about.
But you have to start somewhere right? If you don’t have a fitness plan I do not recommend joining a random gym if you don’t know what you’re doing. Working with a trainer can be really expensive but that’s a great option. Joining specific classes or a gym like Orange Theory is also a great idea. I personally workout at home, I’ve been doing it for years now and it works well for me. If you are interested in at home workouts I recommend a structured program like Bikini Body Guide, I did it and it requires minimal workout equipment. You need a bench, mat, free weights, stability ball and a bosu. Trust me BBG may look easy but it is not.
If you want to take it up a notch I recommend Cathe STS Training Guide 12 weeks program. I just wrapped it up last week and it was amazing but you do need a wide range of free weights, bench, stability ball, slide discs, mat and resistance bands. I’m suppose to get Cathe’s new workout program in the mail any day now and I cannot wait to get started.
Working out means nothing if you have bad diet that’s just a fact, so I know my holiday diet was less than stellar but I’m ready to get back on track. One of the best book I read in 2017 was The Obesity Code, take my word for it you will learn so much. I knew managing your sugar intake was important but this book breaks it out perfectly and will change the way you look at food. A few more changes I made this year was to eat less meat and to up my fiber intake (thanks to the f-factor diet). I also started intermittent fasting, my goal is usually 12-16 hours. So on weekdays I eat from 10AM to 7PM, these fairly simple changes has been so helpful for me this past year.
I’ve been listening to the podcast 10% Happier and been trying my best to meditate daily, it’s really hard and I’m currently struggling. It is however such a great way to unwind and reset, I cannot wait to get to a sweet spot with meditation. This is one of my 2018 goals.
I am still on a workout clothes shopping ban, I lifted in during black friday weekend because I needed a couple new leggings. I’ve been on this ban for over a year now and this is a great testament to my workout clothes because they are all still in excellent shape. The ones I’m sharing below are my favorite brands of workout clothes and shoes that I own and l love.
