Although it feels nothing like Fall here, naturally summer clothing are less tempting. I will still be wearing them for a a while but now I only want to buy transitional items. I am already thinking about the holes I want to fill in my own closet. I wanted to do a series of posts to help guide your Fall shopping and mine, so you can easily identify where you may be lacking. Some posts or sections may not apply to you but I want to cover everything. For example, living in South Florida I have zero need for coats, but I do need a new pair of black flat booties. My old pair is DONE so that section will make more sense to me. We will also soon be flooded with all sorts of Fall finds, I am most likely to resist if I have a plan. I found this old Fall Checklist I did back in 2014, it is such a great way to get a few new items to compliment what you already have. I mostly want classic pieces specially for work, planning my outfits early will also help curb the urge to buy random stuff because I’ll know I’m covered. I’m also making sure to do more posts like this one, to show you several ways to style some key items to get the most out of your closet. My goal is to do them weekly but don’t quote me on that just yet, turns out they are just as time consuming to put together as outfit posts.
First let’s tackle clothing, I want to take the time to mention that in these posts I won’t really cover trends, but mostly classic pieces that are a must for a basic wardrobe. If you have great basics, you will always have great outfits (quote by yours truly lol). I will do a few other posts that covers trendy pieces to supplement your classics. I know I get easily bored so if a trend strikes my fancy, I will be all over it. Let’s start with tops.
The majority of my sweaters are packed away but I know that I’m covered. I do want to pick up a light pink classic sweater or sweatshirt to compliment what I already have. Mine are usually used for both casual and work wear and I personally prefer classic cuts like the ones below. Same for cardigans I love them pretty basic, my office is always freezing so I wear them year round. My all time favorite cardigan is the jackie, it is preppy and fits like a glove I do want to pick up some new colors this year. I also love boyfriend cardigans, I fell in love with this Merino wool V-neck cardigan last year and got it in 3 colors, so happy they didn’t discontinue it. I have to say I am totally crushing on this camo sweater as well, if it goes on sale soon it will be mine. I’m totally having a moment with camo print.
Classic button down shirt, think plaid, chambray, stripes or deep solid colors are a must! Plaid are always the hardest for me because I am so picky with the plaid color combos. So below I wanted to share some of my favorites, I pair them with jackets, cardigans or under a sweater or dress (examples here, here and here).
Over the years I’ve collected quite a few fun sweatshirts, they are more casual and I love how cozy they are. I picked up the classic Adidas one (also available here) during the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale in grey and cannot wait to wear it. I love pairing them with skinny jeans, leggings, sneakers or booties.
A nice coat is a must for most of you but that’s a the section I usually skip. I dream of a cozy camel coat but just cannot justify this purchase so I will have to live vicariously through you guys. I think a classic coat that can easily be paired with anything is a must, but if you already have a classic black, camel or grey coat, then maybe you can invest in a more fun color or print.
I may not need coats but I sure wear jackets. I have to practice great restraint to not go crazy in this particular section because I just love a good jacket. From denim, utility to moto jackets I love them all. You can bet my favorite jacket ever will be on heavy rotation.
