Holiday 2015 Gift Guide on a budget

feature-skincareSome girls collect beauty products or hair products, I am actually a skincare junkie. My acne started when I was fourteen, I had the nicest skin growing up but it all went downhill from there. At 30 I am still dealing with it, it is not as bad but once in a while I get a few outbreaks. Some time last year I decided to get serious about my skincare again, my goal was to not have to use foundation on a daily basis. Now my daily routine consist only of my MAC BB Cream and concealer. My plan was to go back to Dr. Weil’s Mega Mushroom line, but when I saw the Mega Bright line I opted for it and it was the best decision ever! When my dark spots are completly gone, I will go back to the Mega Mushroom line. I could have done this post a while ago, but I went on a trial phase and now I have a few products that I am on the second, third or even 15th bottles. For reference, I am have very oily acne prone skin. I also have a lot of dark spots old and new. So here’s my routine.

In the morning

My morning routine is fairly simple, I’ve been using this face wash for years. It is the best face wash I’ve ever used and it goes a long way. Don’t believe me? Check the  reviews. I use a toner twice a day but mine is made by my dermatologist in Haiti, I usually get a new bottle when my parents are visiting. I went to her so often as a teenager that she’s a good friend of my mom now. I’ve used this one before as well and would probably go back to it, if I couldn’t my custom one anymore. If needed (meaning noticing a few breakouts) I will apply the Clinique acne solution before my moisturizer.

pre workout skincare routineOrigins Pure Cream cleanser // Burt’s Bees facial cleaning towelettes

As soon as I get home from work, I remove my makeup with an oil based makeup remover, I am currently using pure cream by Origins. I massage it in circular motions over my face and rinse with water. I usually have makeup residue left, so I use Burt’s Bees cleansing towelettes to remove whatever is left. Even though I have oily skin, I try my best not to wash it more than twice a day with soap/face cleanser as it is all that sebum that will keep me young looking and wrinkle free.

So 2 to 4 times a week I exfoliate with Modern Friction ( no joke I am easily on my 20th Modern Friction jar/tube). They used to come in a jar. Again I massage it in circular motion and I hop in the shower and rinse it then. This product is probably the #1 rated from Origins.

I use a different cleanser at night, it’s Dr. Weil Mega-Bright face cleanser I got it during a sale and I loved it. This line has really done wonders for my overall complexion. After my shower I usually do my mask(going through them below) then I apply my serum and night mask. Before my night mask, I apply a thin layer of Murad this is helping out a lot with those stubborn dark spots

weekly mask routineWeekly Masks

I do a mask 4-6 times a week, when I’m really good I do one pretty much every night.

Monday & Wednesday: Origins Clear Improvement.

Tuesday & Thursday: Caudalie Glycolic Peel.

Friday: No Mask!

Saturday: I make sure to do a very moisturizing one, I use the Sephora sheet mask in Honey.

Sunday: You’re getting warmer (that is discontinued 🙁 because I love it) and Queen Helene Mint Julep Mask.

A few more tips

  • change your pillow case often (at least weekly).
  • refrain from touching your face and picking on your pimples, our hands are often if not always dirty.
  • never go to bed with your makeup on.
  • don’t wear makeup if you don’t need to, learn to give your skin a break (I do makeup free Sundays and sometime weekends, as soon as I get home from work I take it all off).
  • be careful when applying hair products sometimes they are actually the cause of a breakout.

This is NOT a sponsored post by Origins or Sephora. I’ve purchased and re-purchased these products that I genuinely love with my own money.

Sephora VIB Sale Picks and Recommendations

I am soooo excited about this sale at Sephora because I can finally be a little vain, my skincare products are not cheap so I don’t buy a lot of fun stuff. So starting Friday you can get 20% off everything with code VIB20. I love Nars Cosmetics, but their products are pretty expensive. I only have one of the Audacious Lipstick in Charlotte (wearing it here), so during the sale I may pick it up in Vera. This video helped me pick out the color, Gob bless her for trying out so many lipsticks. She’s a great Beauty Blogger, her complexion is close to mine so that helps a lot. I also getting this blush/bronzer duo that I’ve been lusting for. Also considering getting these too faced palettes (1,2).

With a sale like that I have to pick out a few skincare stuff, I am getting a new tube of Modern Friction and the Tata Harper Resurfacing mask. For my hair I am getting this deep treatment by Phyto, I loved the sample so much that I had to get it.

A few products that I love and totally recommend other than my skincare products:

Anastasia Beverly Hills dip brow pomade (I use mine daily, with the matching brush)

Verb shampoo and conditioner (They my hair so soft and manageable). They also have this gift set.

Estee Lauder Pure Color Envy lipsticks are the amazing! (wearing the Insolent plum here)

I got last year’s version of this Urban Decay eye shadow palette, and trust me it is the BEST!

Dior Addict Lip Glow, perfect for less is more makeup. I’m on my second tube (I get it in coral).

This sale is also the perfect opportunity to pick out a few Christmas presents.

Always remember Skincare > Makeup

Before I leave this is a makeup free pic I took yesterday after my pre-workout routine, all I have on is vaseline on my lips.IMG_4315
