People often ask me who’s my style icon, it is not always easy to answer this question as it is a character. Well mine is Carrie Bradshaw, really I should be grateful to SJP and Patricia Fields for bringing her to life. While I will not be caught dead in some of her outfits, I love her ability to always be herself.
She represents everything that I admire, she takes risks, she’s not afraid of colors, prints, and her style matures as she grows older. Just like Carrie I am a moody dresser, I have a multidimensional personality and it shows in the way I dress. One day Carrie looks classy and elegant for a meeting at Vogue and the other she is wearing a tutu like dress, and the next she is wearing a preppy Ralph Lauren-like look. Her style is really all over the place and I love it.
My attention span is just too short for me to only stick to a particular look all the time. I only have ONE rule: “if it does not look good on me, I will not wear it”. For example, I was totally on board with the wedge sneakers trend, but they just don’t work for me and I tend to prefer strappy feminine shoes so I had to let it go. In the beginning of my first corporate job I really struggled in that area, I wanted to look professional but did not want to wear gray, black or navy suits trousers all the time. Eventually I learned to personalize my professional attire.
Carrie also shows us that fashion is about self expression and having fun with it, so what you wear one bad outfit, there’s 365 days in a year. You have plenty of time and occasions to make up for it. So have fun!
Keep Calm and Carrie on my Fashionistas, see you tomorrow.
